Day One

Today was day one of 365 days of giving.  The staff at Shouka couldn't wait to get started!  Along with the Shouka staff, the Ocean Discovery staff, the Walrus staff and the Wildlife staff have all committed to 365 days of giving!  We can't wait to see who else joins us! Today at Shouka, we decided to record our giving for the day on a dry erase board that we have in the office.  I would then record it on the blog this evening.  What a fun first day!

This is the list of giving for day one:
  • I brought in blueberry muffins to share.
  • Andy and Becky volunteered to help at walrus and seal cove because both areas were short staffed.
  • We did several meet and greets to share Shouka and Merlin.
  • Andy shared his pizza with Robert.
  • Brett texted me that she bought a $10 gift card at Starbucks and told the barista to pay for as many coffees as possible with it.
  • Eric (our Park President) let someone else be in charge for the day so he could spend time with his family.
  • Andy brought Shouka a new toy.
  • Rob bought my brother lunch.
  • My brother Bill bought Rob an adult beverage.
  • Shouka brought us a leaf.
An unexpected gift-
I got a call today from guest relations telling me there were guests in the Park that wanted to make a monetary donation to the animals. When we went to accept this gift, we found two shy young guys probably early 20's.  They apologized that they made us walk in the rain to receive their small donation of $20 but they wanted the tigers to receive something special.  We happily accepted their gift assuring them that any donation for our animals is an important donation.  Their donation will be added to our animal enrichment fund. Our tigers will get a new toy because of their generosity!
